QUT has a focus on applied research, with a mission to solve real-world problems for industry and the community. We are committed to tackling issues of global importance, and base our research around six themes concerning health, food, energy, the environment, information and security. Research on these critical issues occurs through the collaborative efforts of our ten disciplines, including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Radiation Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Biogeoscience, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Cell and Molecular Biosciences.
To enhance our research capacity and extend our scope for collaboration beyond the science and technology disciplines, the Faculty also has a stake in four major research institutes. In turn, these institutes link the University with external partners such as major hospitals, government departments, private enterprises and national research organisations. The institutes focus on research in information security, the environment, health and the creative industries, and include the Information Security Institute (ISI), Institute for Creative Industries & Innovation (iCi), Institute for Health & Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) and the Institute for Sustainable Resources (ISR).
There are over 400 postgraduate research students in the Faculty’s masters and doctoral programs. If you are considering a postgraduate research course in the faculty, the research staff directory provides information on our researchers and their current research interests, which may assist you in finding a suitable supervisor for your research degree. Prospecitive students can find assistance with application processes under the for research students branch, along with currently available projects in honours and higher degree research.
The Faculty provides a range of scientific testing services, consultancy services and state–of–the–art facilities which are available to our clients and collaborators, and is involved in a number of research collaborations with government and industry.
